The latest updates on ExpressionEngine6
At Omaha Media Group, we are committed to providing the highest quality website design and development services to all of our clients. Because of this, our staff is constantly improving our processes and providing the latest technology.
We are happy to announce that we have started the process of deploying ExpressionEngine 6 and will offer this to all clients moving forward.
While we do develop on and maintain other content management systems such as WordPress, ExpressionEngine continues to be our preferred and recommended CMS.
Why choose ExpressionEngine (EE) over others?
ExpressionEngine 6
From security to seamless updates, there are plenty of reasons why we choose EE over the competition, and these are the biggest reasons why.
1. Security
ExpressionEngine provides companies with state-of-the-art security on their website. This is one of the top priorities at EE and OMG because a security breach can cause a trickle down effect and release information to a hacker that would hurt a company’s reputation.
A CMS is able to host all of the website’s information such as credit card numbers, customer’s personal information and anything else that is needed for someone to sign up for or purchase something. WordPress is known to be one of the more vulnerable content management systems.
2. Plugins
Plugins provide websites with the unique ability to enhance their website at any moment, but the downside is that sometimes they can slow down the website. With EE, it is easier to install plugins and keep the website running in compliance with Google Development requirements.
ExpressionEngine provides plugin developers with tools and documentation to tie in and extend the core CMS with new functionality. The majority of the time, when you hear about WordPress sites getting 'hacked', it's through a security vulnerability in one of their 54,000+ plugins. The tools EE provides are designed to keep the plugins as secure as the CMS itself and minimize the chance that the plugin can be used as a security exploit.”
3. SEO and content marketing
EE makes content marketing, management and SEO a breeze for marketers, SEOs and clients alike. With other CMS, there is another plugin needed for making SEO easier and more optimized, but with EE, it is a breeze.
You can edit content, with a history of 50 revisions, so no need to worry about deleting something. We can recover it up to the 50th change! On the other hand, our backend provides a number of features for off-page optimization and plenty of different options for content from long-form content to forms! 😍
These are only a couple of reasons why we love utilizing EE, and with the latest update, we are even more excited for these new features!
The latest updates
ExpressionEngine 6
EE6
This update has been in the works for two years to provide companies like Omaha Media Group and their clients with the latest and best CMS! As ExpressionEngines states, “it’s also the dawn of a new era in the ExpressionEngine world.”
What does this new era bring to the table? How about better interfaces, refined interactions, functionality and new template tags.
The redesigned control panel provides websites with a better user experience (UX) design, a new dark theme, new navigation, no more max-width, resize live preview, and so many other new enhancements. ExpressionEngine has had a top navigation bar since it’s inception. That’s gone now and has been replaced by a left navigation menu which can be hidden while you’re working, if desired. The new fonts are easier to read and the entire CMS has been optimized for mobile devices.
The new Jump Menu at the top of the screen allows editors to get where they need to go much quicker. Just start typing in what you’re looking for and a list of links to anywhere in the CMS will populate.
Entry list
The entry listing screen can now be customized to display information from the entries themselves, making this screen much more useful. Each channel can have its own layout for this screen, too!
There are numerous improvements on the entry form screen, as well. Want to edit your site from your phone? EE6 has some much needed mobile improvements. It also has some new and improved fields including a Color Picker field.
EE6 also makes it easier to upgrade from older versions, all the way back to EE2. If you have an older ExpressionEngine site, the path to upgrade your site is much shorter now. EE6, like EE5 before it, is also open-source and does not carry a licensing fee.
The future of ExpressionEngine is bright and there is much to look forward to in coming versions.
