Tips to Beat Deadlines
As an entrepreneur, you are usually overcome with excitement when you have to take up a new challenge. Unfortunately, this excitement doesn’t last long as you get hit by waves of deadlines. With every task you fail to complete, you push yourself into a wormhole. The deeper you go into this wormhole, the more your productivity and decision-making capabilities decrease.
How will you get out of this wormhole? How do you stay in the best state of mind and accomplish all the tasks within the given deadline?
1. Break your project down into smaller parts
Although it is good to look at the complete picture of your project, you should break it down into smaller parts. The smaller parts are mini goals; set miniature deadlines for each mini goal. As you accomplish each mini goal, you will feel more accomplished and you will work harder towards the next one. By working in this manner, you will be able to achieve the bigger picture of your project, without getting overwhelmed or slowed down by it.
2. Don’t solely depend on mental notes
Even if you have a great memory, you shouldn’t solely rely on it to store all tiny bits of important information. You have a lot of tasks to complete on a daily basis, putting you under large amounts of pressure. When you are facing a new task, you shouldn’t make a note of it mentally and go about completing your remaining activities. Instead, jot the task dates down on your calendar. It should include the due date and duration of your task. It will help you establish an order for your responsibilities, and you will complete your tasks accordingly.
3. The right time is always now
If you receive a new project or task on your desk, start working on it as soon as possible. While you would have set the starting and ending times for your project, it makes no sense when you put it off without a sound reason. By getting started on your tasks or projects immediately, you will be able to stay ahead of schedule and lessen the chances of not meeting your deadlines. If you finish earlier than usual, you have a buffer period to check your project for any mistakes. You have enough time to rectify any mistake you made while working on the project.
4. Work based on urgency and not importance
When you are scheduling your tasks and projects in your calendar, you need to pick ones that are closer to their due date. They may not be important as all the remaining tests, but they have to be completed on time, especially when the due date is fast approaching. If you are thinking about finishing tasks that are more important, complete the ones that have shorter deadlines as quickly as possible. By working on these terms, you will have a better focus on more important tasks.
Follow these simple tips to beat your deadlines. Once you have mastered how to do this, you will be able to take your business to a higher and more successful level.
